JOB SUMMARY

Passaic County Domestic and Sexual Violence (PCDSVC) Counselor is responsible for providing quality services to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault with a focus on working with LGBTQ, elder, males, and others. The Counselor will provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy, and case management to victims as well as attending and participating in community meetings to promote awareness of PCDSVC services and ensure victims’ rights are protected. All services are provided within the context of a trauma-informed approach.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

Counseling & Direct Support

  • Provide culturally sensitive counseling, immediate crisis intervention, needs assessment, and safety planning with all survivors who access PCDSVC supportive services.
  • Provide individual and or group counseling sessions, to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, adjusting to life, coping strategies or making changes; guide clients in the development of skills or strategies for dealing with their problems.
  • Assess clients’ primary areas of support and needs, and respond to self-identified goals by providing case management, advocacy and referrals related to housing, public assistance, immigration, employment, education, children’s and other issues. Act as a case manager for assigned caseloads depending on program assignment.
  • Provide advocacy and accompaniment assistance for survivors attending criminal/civil justice proceedings, law enforcement interactions, and/or medical intervention as requested by the survivor.
  • Assist clients with Victim’s Crime Compensation, NJ VINE, and Victim Impact Panels and Statements.
  • Assist in providing a safe and therapeutic environment according to established policies and procedures.
  • Attend various community meetings and conduct outreach to promote awareness of PCWC’s services.
  • Respond to crisis calls during scheduled shift and participate in SART on-call schedule as needed
  • Collect, analyze, and report departmental statistics and enter data into client database in an accurate and timely manner as set forth in NJAC- PCDSVC’s policies.
  • Conduct community outreach as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree in Human Services or any other relatable field with a minimum of two years’ experience providing counseling and/or crisis intervention
  • Completion of NJ 40-hour State Mandated Domestic Violence Training and or 40 hour CSVA training
  • Experience in Trauma informed Cares, Crisis intervention and/or services for domestic violence survivors preferred.
  • Demonstrated dedication to the anti-violence movement, social justice, and gender equity
  • Able to set priorities in a shifting environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Project management experience
  • Understanding of the dynamics and impacts of sexual violence
  • Critical and strategic thinking
  • Strong analytical and persuasive writing skills
  • A high level of organization
  • An ability to measure program outcomes
  • An ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Some evening and overnight availability may be necessary

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a currently registered vehicle.
