Support Specialist (MSW) – Residential Substance Abuse Program

Salary Range: $45,000 – $55,000 annually (based on experience and credentials)

The New Jersey Association on Correction (NJAC) is a nonprofit human‑services agency dedicated to supporting justice‑involved individuals through evidence‑based programming, reentry services, residential treatment, and community support. For more than 50 years, NJAC has provided trauma‑informed, client‑centered services that promote safety, stability, and long‑term recovery.

Our residential substance abuse programs offer structured support to individuals transitioning from incarceration, helping them build the skills and stability needed for successful reintegration.


Position Summary

NJAC is seeking a Master’s-level Social Worker (MSW) with at least 3 years of experience in drug and alcohol addiction treatment to join our residential halfway house program. The Support Specialist provides clinical support, counseling, and case coordination to residents working toward recovery and reentry. CADC or CADC‑Intern status is preferred.

This role is ideal for a mission‑driven professional who thrives in a structured environment and is committed to supporting individuals with substance use disorders and justice‑involved backgrounds.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling using evidence‑based practices.
  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Support residents in relapse prevention, coping skills, and reentry planning.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate with case managers, program staff, parole/probation, and community partners.
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and required trainings.
  • Uphold program structure, safety protocols, and agency policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in substance use disorder treatment.
  • Strong clinical documentation and assessment skills.
  • Experience working with justice‑involved or residential populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a structured, mission‑driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CADC or CADC‑Intern credential.
  • Experience with motivational interviewing, CBT, or other evidence‑based modalities.

Work Schedule

  • Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Schedule may include evenings or weekends depending on program needs.
  • On‑site role within a residential halfway house environment.
